Dear Mr. Fantasy

First of all, let me say Antwerp rocks.  Great people, great beer and great food and add great music.
Well, here it is, the conclusion of my European leg of the Clapton Winwood tour.  Lots of fun and
met lots of great people.  I took a taxi to the show and a really cool cab driver put in my Wembley
recording.  He dropped be off in front of the Backstage/Time Out Bar and they were playing The MSG cd.
I asked him if he wanted to put on Wembley and he did to my surprise.  I really got to hear how it
sounded on a good sound system.  Started talking to Alex who was sitting next to me.  We had a few
drinks and he was very willing and able to help me record the show.  Went and got my ticket at will
call, snuck in the gear and scored the spot.  Before the show started talking with three people to my
left and I gave then a copy of Wembley.  I was hoping to find people to help and a few copies of
Wembley were brought for that reason.  In our conversation I was asked if I was the guy with the
battery problem during Cocaine at Birmingham.  Small world there.  Show started and besides being
very very hot, it went as planned.  Sound was not as good as the previous shows and a louder crowd but
still a really good recording.  Great show too.  After the show went back to the bar and they were
still playing my Wembley recording.  People were enjoying it and I spoke with quite a few people about
recording all the while enjoying Belgian beers.

Dear Mr. Fantasy

Here is the second night of the tour from Wembley.  Twenty years after seeing the Grateful Dead
at I have finally returned. Perfect seats and everything worked as planned.  If only I wasn't
fighting a nasty cold it would have been perfect.  Great show, met some great people and my
Lithium batteries worked as planned.

First show on the European tour. Call me crazy but I had to go after last year's
US tour. Not a perfect first recording but aside from Cocaine it came out very
good. I was using my new Tascam recorder and from testing cheapo AA batteries
I was getting 3 hours plus. I figured Duracells would be better (my mistake).
Seats were in 7th row and I was real close to the aisle so I started recorder
at a few minutes before scheduled showtime.  I noticed a security guy parked
two rows behind my seat and I didn't want to risk an international incident.
Clapton is always prompt but at this show they came on stage 25 to 30 minutes
late.  This meant I burned to extra battery time but I should have been OK.  Well,
during COcaine I realized my recorder had shut down.  Ran to the bathroom and
switched batteries.  I almost got caught doing it as a security guy was on his
way to pee.  He asked and I said it was a camera and ran back to my seat.  I got
the end of Cocaine.  After the show I checked the files and could not find the
large once and I freaked.  I thought I lost the entire show. Back at the room I
found the file.  Here it is.

Last stop on the tour for me.  Home town show recorded with DG just
like old times.  Excellent sound but two flaws.  During Pearly Queen
there was a bit of a arguement right behind me.  Ended up wearing
part of a drink, but didnt let it affect the recording besides the
extra noise.  The other problem is I missed the first bit of Low Spark
when the recorder has a memory error creating the second file.  I had
to restart the unit and missed less than a minute.  Oh well.  So much
for the flawless recording.

Stop number four of my Clapton/Winwood tour across America. Usually a Mandalay Bay person
but chose to stay at MGM because of th e show. I arrived late to a reservation screw-up
and lots of yelling. I knew right then, Vegas was not going to be easy. About 2 1/2 hours
before showtime I went to the arena and noticed that they had metal detectors at the door.
That was not what I wanted to see. I also needed to meet someone to give them their ticket.
I started scoping out the entrance trying to come up with a plan. As I was watching I
saw a woman hand her purse to the guard without passing through the metal detector. I had
my opening and went to the entrance. She looked in my pack and didnt find the electronics.
She told me I needed to check my bag at bag check. When I saw her turn around I went in.
I still needed to hand off the ticket. With help from someone who I met online I had help
with the ticket transfer. Good seats, hot show and aside from two glitches, a nice recording.
There is a cut in Had to Cry Today when the recorder went on pause for a short bit. Layla also
has a cut compliments of the drunk next to me. He accidently hit my gear and pulled a cable.
The only other annoyance was the old folks right in front who talked to much.

Comments:
A digitally remastered version of the original "Men Without Legs", done by Bill F. some years back.
The tweaking makes the songs much more listenable, but also has the unfortunate side effect causing some artifacts in the quiet passages between songs.

RE-UP: Eric Clapton "An Acoustic Tale" - 1CD - live 1992 - soundboard

Eric Clapton
"An Acoustic Tale"

1992 was the year of Unplugged and the last year before EC started
transitioning into the blues songs he now favors. In terms of Unplugged,
the actual concert was close to 3 hours-but less than half found its way
onto the legitimate release. There are more than 10 boots of the concert,
but they vary in quality and some duplicate a large number of the cuts on
the original release. The recommended boot is An Acoustic Tale (Backstage,
sb6). It features 2 versions of My Father's Eyes, 1 of Circus Left Town,
and a fabulous Walking Blues. The only duplicated song from the legitimate
release is Old Love (but the disc runs 70 minutes anyway).

Recorded at Bray Studios, Windsor, on 16/01/92.
11 tracks on 1 CD. Total Time : 64:25

RE-UP: Eric Clapton "For One Night Only" 1CD - BBC special 2012

For One Night Only
Presented by Paul Gambaccini
"Eric Clapton Unplugged"
BBC Radio 4 FM Stereo Broadcast
October 6th 2012
10:30-11:00

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
ALL MUSIC CONTENT CONSISTS OF A FEW SECONDS OF ANY TRACK OR HAS TALKOVER
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Paul Gambaccini re-visits the 1992 recording of 'Eric Clapton Unplugged', in the company of Eric
Clapton himself and others who were there.

On 16 January 1992, in front of a small audience at Bray Studios near Maidenhead, Berkshire, Eric
Clapton and a small group of musicians made history. For the first time in a public performance,
the legendary guitarist 'unplugged' his amp and picked up an acoustic guitar to record a selection
of old blues favourites and brand new material, including the poignantly personal 'Tears in Heaven',
about the tragic los of his son, Conor, the previous year. And then there was the radically surprising
take on the classic 'Layla'.

Paul Gambaccini hears the story of the making of this classic album, which went on to sell over 20
million copies worldwide and won 6 Grammies, from Eric Clapton himself. He also hears the memories
of members of the band: Andy Fairweather Low, Steve Ferrone, Chuck Leavell and Nathan East; Alex Coletti,
who produced the show for MTV; sound recordist Buford Jones, and members of the audience.

3. beginning of  ‘My father’s eyes’ (34secs) was removed from ending of  ‘Hello old friend’ to right place
5. 5 secs of ending last track from CD1 was copied as beginning of CD2

Notes:
Crappy seats, but the recording turned out decent. A few times I toggled between pre-amp settings between songs - before and after acoustic songs; I tried to smooth out the changes in post the best I could. Also, I edited out some clappers, but overall a quiet bunch of people were around us.
I took my daughter "Sweetpea" to this show, her second concert. She wanted to hear Layla. Sadly for her, no Layla.

All thanks go to Mr. “wbhendrix” from DaD, for recording and very quick sharing this show. This is his recording, but remastered a little. I’ve did sound equalization - inside track, where i made audience screaming lower, and later i equalized all tracks to the one sound volume level (94dB). and i made “fades -in and -out” for every cd. for better spliting i added few seconds from ending Tears... to the beginning Wonderful... nothing from show wasn’t lost…
