Geetarz' Comments:

I've made no secret of my opinion that the 2001 tour was EC's worst of the last 25 years. It wasn't that the playing wasn't good ... it was that it was slick, rehearsed, rushed at times. In many ways it was more like a stage production where every note was planned out beforehand. Even if we want to talk about the worst tours of his entire career, at least in the 1970s he had the excuse of being drunk and high as a kite, and though the shows were uneven, that in some ways is more interesting than being consistently mundane.

This show is happily a diversion from the mundane nature of most of that tour, and a standout performance.

As an additional bonus, it's also one of the better audience recordings from that tour.

and again many thanks for Mr. ECMM for sharing these files. I've made many small corrections (removed few sound disturbances inside tracks, reduced audience noise between songs, corrected tracks connections, equalization all tracks to the one level). this is not very good recording and unfortunately MONO but isn't very bad too. but i think nothing more can be done. aftere those corrections i rate it: 6/10.

RE-UP: Eric Clapton live in Tampa 2001 - 2CD - May 19

Eric Clapton ,  Ice Palace , Tampa , Florida    May  19  2001
119 min Sound B+
ALD Soundboard & Audience matrix by  John Tsalikes from Master DATS !!!

Remaster by Boguspomp.

Here the reason for the remaster. Originally left channel audience source, right channel ALD.
Left channel was always in synchro with right channel at the beginning of each song, but at the
end between 26/1000 and 44/1000 secs early -  means the speed on the left channel was a little off.
So I corrected that, put them back together and converted the 2 channels into each other to create a matrix.
I  adjusted the volume in the way, that the ALD source is dominant and the audience serves as the reverb and ambience.
A difference in volume of around 4 dB seemed to work fine. All over volume adjusted, left channel
delayed 1/1000 sec to give a kind of stereo feeling and help the people like me, that will listen to
this show on 5.1 systems, not to be forced to listen to the show only through the Center speaker,
which would be the case in pure mono. As someone pointed out in the original post there is a certain
amount of distortion present, that as you might know or don't know, can not be removed.
Must have been recorded too hot. Distortion was also present in the left (aud) channel, not only in the right;
but as the right channel was most of the time dominant in the original post as well, you wouldn't hear it.
This show is by no means in a perfect sonic condition, but the overall improvement is audible and makes it
much more pleasant to listen to this wonderful show.
The 2 sources were obviously from the masters as the Spectrum Analysis' were perfect in both cases.
No equalization or other kind of sonic manipulation. No noise reduction ( has some hiss, but hey )
Enjoy

RE-UP: Eric Clapton live in Pesaro 2001 - 2CD - March 3

Eric Clapton - Saturday I Go Out To Play
BPA Palas, Pesaro Italy
March 3, 2001
Remastered Audience Recording

Not very bad audience recording thanks to the fantastic italian fans in Pesaro. i've fixed equalization all tracks to lower level (it was much too high), muted audience between songs a little and did some others small corrections. and IMO now it sounds much better.

Geetarz Comments:

A great, crisp, clear audience recording in awesome quality - deep bass, but not boomy, clear highs, very listenable. Too bad all aud. recs aren't this good! EC blows the beginning of his solo on "Going Down Slow" but recovers nicely. Also a great performance of "I Shot the Sheriff". Also a good night for "Tearing Us Apart".

Geetarz Comments:
The first of two sources for this performance, which was the third of three in New York on the Pilgrim Tour.
It's a good audience recording, but definitely a notch behind that found on Mid Valley's "Pilgrim Fathers".
Not only is the recording a little inferior, but at times spoiled by a cadre of New York Assholes near the taper.

Geetarz Comments:

Taken directly from the (incomplete) master.

This is a personal favorite, and contains my personal favorite performance of "She's Gone".

Unfortunately the recording is not complete as the taper's recorder drained its battery prematurely.

My source remarked to me that this was recorded by a friend of his who "is a doctor ... but not of recording" and this comment has always struck my funny bone and chuckelized me ... therefore my nickname for this recording is "Dr. Blues".

This is the third recording source for this show, and not to be confused with Recorder 1 ("Restore My Soul Again" [original], "Pilgrim Fathers" [Remastered]), or Recorder 2 ("She's Gone" [DJ Copy]).

Geetarz Comments:

Sound quality is excellent, with a great mix, very clear, crisp cymbals and percussion, very listenable overall.

The song "Pilgrim" features one of the more unique arrangements of the '98 tour, the band begins the song at a quick tempo, then quickly drops the speed down to the "normal" tempo - a unique performance of the song, as far as I know.

"Going Down Slow" features EC's solo on slide!

On the second half of the show the band really opened up, performing a great version of "Tearing Us Apart", and a GREAT version of Sunshine, EC can't wait and sneaks in a little solo before the first verse, a good outro solo, then kicks into an extended vamp at the end, with EC and Andy trading vocals on the outro chorus.

The show ends with a rousing version of "Crossroads".

Eric was accompanied by a 20-piece orchestra with Nick Ingman as conductor.

Geetarz Comments:

An excellent audience recording, warm, rich and full, with wide frequency range.

Very listenable, near soundboard in parts, marred only by a little near crowd noise.

Great performances, too, including a hot solo on "Going Down Slow" and excellent outro vocals by EC, very impassioned.

He leaps right into "She's Gone" with no solo, as there would be later in the tour.

This early performance of "Gone" is excellent and quite different from later arrangements of the song, particularly the song intro and tempo.

"Circus" is especially nice as well.

This excellent recording is only marred by two small digital glitches, both in "Crossroads", one at the very beginning and one about 1:00 into the song, which are in the master recording to the best of my knowledge.

The best quality recording, and one of the finest performances, of the early leg of the 1998 Pilgrim tour.

Recommended.
