Quality exc aud rec

This 2ng gen tape is from one of my sources in Japan. A really nice recording. Of the shows I've posted thus far this is the best. And one of the best from the whole tour, although I haven't transcribed them all yet so that's not my final answer. There are a couple of boots of this show circulating which have a slight edge to this sonically, however they are not complete shows missing almost a third of the concert.

Geetarz Comments:

The EC Bootography lists this as an Aud 6 - I'll have to disagree and instead confer an "Aud 4" given the fact that although the recording is in fact very crisp and clear, the amount of reverb and echo do take it down a couple notches. Still, a good, listenable audience recording. "Old Love" and "Badge" are incomplete, and run together as one track.

Introduction:

This was a charity show in aid of the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, a centre for providing music therapy for mentally, physically, and autistically handicapped children, and the BRIT School for Performing Arts, a new venture of the British Phonographic Industry. The historic event was attended by 125,000 people and broadcast live on BBC Radio 1.

The acts in order of appearance were: Tears for Fears, Status Quo, Cliff Richard & The Shadows, Robert Plant (with guest Jimmy Page), Phil Collins (later joined by Mike Rutherford & Tony Banks thus forming Genesis), a supergroup including Elton John, Eric Clapton & Mark Knopfler, Paul McCartney & Wings, and Pink Floyd -- easily the greatest gathering of British stars since Live Aid.

Many thanks to tapers and for those who shared it first. These are almost very good recording.
I only made some small corections, removed few gaps, fixed some connections between tracks,
removed, if it was possible, or muted some single screams close to recorder, shorter encore break and ending,
and equalized all tracks and both recording to similar level.
I hope these good recordings are now even better.

Geetarz Comments:

The 1988 Tour celebrated Clapton's 25th Anniversary in the music business, and coincided with the resurgence of classic roots rock and blues in the public eye. The tour was received warmly, and the crowd in Phildelphia was off the hook, which really took the energy level of the band up a notch as well.

Sourced from a low generation copy of a pro-shot Video in wide circulation among collectors - then remastered by the 3BR team.

Great, crisp soundboard recording. The mix, in particular, is very up-front and close-miked.

IMO, this is superior to the Tarantura release "Vivela Slowhand", which apears to have been sourced from a lower quality, higher-generation source and suffers from a bit of VHS tracking noise.

Notes:
JEMS master recording. This is a very good to excellent sounding recording capturing Eric Clapton touring in support of "Behind The Sun" on the 2nd leg of the North American tour. Lionel Ritchie joins the band on stage for the encores. "Tulsa Time" and the beginning of "Motherless Children" have slight distortion in the signal due to volume being adjusted too loud. Volume correction done on those portions. Graham Parker opened.

Additional notes:
- first tape flip after "Steppin' Out", no music is missed.
- second tape flip after "Cocaine", no music is missed.
- best split for burning is between 11 & 12. (01-11 [61:21]; 12-18 [45:42]).

Eric Clapton
Detroit, Pine Knob Pavilion
June 29, 1983

From my 20 years old tapes ("second generation" written on them but I can' t swear it is true) comes this average quality (still very listenable) recording of a complete show of the third leg of the Money And Cigarettes tour. We have the standard set list for this part of the tour, but with a funny and interesting (at least for us Clapton maniacs) fact: a false start in Tulsa Time !!! Yes, and I think I haven' t heard this before in any EC show; you can feel there is something wrong from the unusually long instrumental introduction to the song; at one point Eric says something (I hope someone with a better english than mine will let us know the exact words of Eric) about coming back later and the song is interrupted !!!
There is not The Shape You' re in in this recording which is quite strange, but to my ears the show is complete and there is not interruption in the recording between Key To The Highway and Wonderful Tonight, the moment where The Shape You' re In was usually played.

Disc 1:
Tulsa Time (false start !!!)
Tulsa Time
I Shot The Sheriff
Worried Life Blues
Lay Down Sally

Geetarz comment: Now this is a little bizarre - EC
dedicates "Double Trouble" to Albert Lee because
of his pending marriage, saying "this is a sort of romantic
song we've turned into a blues". Exactly how is "Double Trouble"
a romantic song? I mean, why not dedicate "Wonderful Tonight"
or somesuch? Strange...
